    Mixing Adderall & Pre-Workout Supplements | Effects & Dangers

There is insufficient research on the effects of mixing Adderall with pre-workout supplements. However, many pre-workout supplements contain stimulants such as caffeine, which can lead to heart attack, high blood pressure, and stroke when mixed with Adderall.

Adderall is a prescription amphetamine that can treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as well as narcolepsy. Its generic name is dextroamphetamine. Adderall is a controlled substance that can be abused to improve physical or academic performance.

Taking Adderall to improve athletic performance is not an approved use of the drug. If you are currently taking Adderall to treat ADHD, talk to a medical professional before you begin taking performance enhancers or dietary supplements.

Effects Of Mixing Pre-Workout With Adderall

Pre-workout supplements are taken to increase energy levels, maximize workout routines, and improve athletic performance.

Many pre-workout supplements contain ingredients such as creatine, beta-alanine, and caffeine. However, pre-workout supplements may not be regulated by any health or dietary agency.

On its own, the side effects of Adderall, such as dry mouth, dizziness, and constipation, can negatively affect exercise routines such as weight loss exercises, bodybuilding, and cardio training. Some experts believe the effects of Adderall may not promote muscle gain.

Mixing pre-workout with Adderall may not offset the negative side effects of Adderall. If the pre-workout supplements you are taking contain stimulants, the side effects you experience may be serious.

Dangers Of Mixing Pre-Workout With Adderall

Mixing pre-workout supplements with Adderall may cause life-threatening negative effects such as:

    • heart palpitations
    • chest pain
    • high blood pressure
    • heart attack
    • stroke
    • sudden death

These serious side effects are more likely when you take high doses of Adderall, or when you take Adderall with pre-workout supplements that contain stimulants.

Patients with preexisting health conditions, such as hypertension and cardiovascular disease, can experience worsening heart problems after taking Adderall. Taking pre-workout and engaging in physical exercise under these conditions can increase your heart rate, which can lead to sudden death.

Interactions Between Adderall & Pre-Workout Ingredients

Mixing two stimulants such as caffeine and Adderall can cause life-threatening cardiovascular problems. However, insufficient research exists on the interactions between non-stimulant pre-workout supplements and Adderall.

    Adderall & Amino Acids

There are no known interactions between Adderall and creatine, beta-alanine, or l-glutamine. Taking supplements that contain these ingredients while working out on Adderall may not have a higher risk of serious side effects.

Creatine, beta-alanine, and l-glutamine are amino acids. Amino acids can block the absorption of Adderall. Though little research has been done between Adderall and these amino acids, using Adderall with these pre-workout supplements can make the drug less effective.

Treatment Options For ADHD Medication Abuse

ADHD medications such as Adderall, Ritalin, and Vyvanse can have high potential for substance abuse. These medications can temporarily boost your energy and focus, even in unapproved situations.

The health risk of abusing ADHD medications can outweigh their temporary, short-term benefits.
