How To Find & Choose Addiction Treatment In Kentucky

Kentucky residents have access to a variety of quality addiction treatment centers. The Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy oversees addiction treatment in the state and seeks to connect residents battling alcohol or drug addiction with accredited rehab facilities.

The following are additional resources available to help you find the best addiction treatment center for you.

Choosing the drug and alcohol rehab program that’s best for you can be a difficult part of the process. However, many of the top drug and alcohol rehab centers in Kentucky offer a number of key services and characteristics.

The following are a few features to look for when choosing the treatment center that’s right for you:

    • co-occurring disorders: the treatment center should offer dual diagnosis for co-occurring disorders, such as addiction and mental health disorders
    • continuum of care: a quality drug treatment center will offer healthcare services and resources long after you’ve completed an inpatient or outpatient program
    • licensed drug and alcohol counselors: all addiction treatment specialists at the facility should be licensed by the state of Kentucky
    • evidence-based services: the treatment methods used should be previously tested and proven effective
    • individualized treatment plans: your addiction treatment plan should be customized to suit your addiction and personal needs

Choosing the right recovery program for you may also involve considering the length of the program and the cost of treatment. These elements can greatly sway your decision making process.

Kentucky Drug & Alcohol Treatment Programs

The Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy offers a variety of treatment options to residents of the state and beyond. These services range from detox centers to specific opiate treatment programs, inpatient treatment, and more.

The Kentucky facility to best suit your needs may be based on the level of care you need, which may include:

    • detox services, including medical detox
    • residential treatment
    • outpatient treatment
    • medication-assisted treatment
    • aftercare

    Medical Drug & Alcohol Detoxification

Detoxification is a process that is required to enter an inpatient or outpatient addiction treatment program. Medical detox is often offered to ensure the process is as safe and comfortable as possible. Detox is best performed at a qualified detox center with 24-hour professional care.

    Residential/Inpatient Drug Rehab

Residential programs involve living on-site at the treatment facility until your program is complete. These inpatient treatment services in Kentucky can be used for short- or long-term treatment and involve a combination of therapies and treatment approaches to aid in recovery.

The following are a few programs and services you can expect from an inpatient rehab program:

    • mental and behavioral health therapy
    • group therapy sessions
    • counseling
    • wellness, nutrition courses, and holistic care activities
    • evidence-based treatment methods

    Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Outpatient treatment is typically less intense than inpatient treatment, as it does not involve living on-site at the drug rehab facility. You will be required to travel to and from the outpatient treatment center for your treatment sessions.

However, more intense forms of outpatient treatment, like partial hospitalization programs or intensive outpatient programs, may be suggested for more serious addictions.

    Medication-Assisted Treatment

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) in Kentucky involves a combination of the use of medication and behavioral therapies to help individuals lower dependency on opioid or alcohol addictions.

Kentucky MAT programs may include the following:

    • individual and group therapy sessions
    • use of approved medication, such as Suboxone or methadone
    • counseling
    • nutritional and wellness education

    Aftercare Support

Substance use disorder is a recurring disease that can continue throughout your life if it is not treated properly. Quality Kentucky rehab facilities will offer aftercare programs to provide support long after completing residential or outpatient treatment.

    Examples of aftercare may include:
