Janet Sharp was born on January 17, 1864, in Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester, England. Unfortunately, her mother passed away during childbirth. Janet lived with her father William Sharp, an insurance agent.
Janet became interested in acting due to her grandparents owning the Theatre Royal in Manchester. Her career in acting began when she joined Sarah Thorne’s stock company in Margate.
The English stage actress made her first appearance at the Olympic Theatre and later appeared at the Novelty Theatre.
Memorable Roles
Janet had memorable roles throughout her career, including Ibsen’s A Doll House, the title role in George Bernard Shaw’s Candida, and Wiers-Jennsen’s The Witch. She performed at Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1897.
Janet’s career led her to various countries around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, and Egypt. Janet married Charles Charrington and sadly in 1889, she gave birth to a stillborn child.
Once The Witch production ended, Janet ended her career, beginning retirement.
