Arthur Adamov was a famous playwright at the forefront of the Theatre of the Absurd. Unfortunately, Adamov passed away at the age of 61 from a barbiturate overdose.
About Arthur Adamov
Arthur Adamov was born on August 23, 1908, in Kislovodsk, Terek Oblast, Russian Empire. He was born to a wealthy Armenian family.
The family escaped to Geneva, Switzerland, during World War I. Adamov learned and spoke French, moving to Paris at the age of 16.
Near the end of World War II, Adamov began to write plays, even a play based on a dream Adamov experienced known as Le Professeur Taranne.
Not only was he a playwright, Adamov was an editor of the surrealist journal known as Discontinuité. He was an avant-garde writer and considered to be a French dramatist.

Many of Adamov’s works were influenced by August Strindberg and Bertolt Brecht. Adamov was known for his involvement with the Theater of the Absurd, a designation for plays post WWII which focus on absurdist fiction and existentialism.

Adamov passed away on March 15, 1970 at the age of 61. He died in Paris, France from a barbiturate overdose.
