  • Can You Snort Phentermine?

    Can You Snort Phentermine?

The appetite suppressant phentermine may be snorted, leading to serious health concerns. As a form of drug abuse, some may snort the diet pills in an attempt to lose weight more quickly or achieve a euphoric high or “rush.”

Phentermine (brand names Adipex-P, Ionamin) is a prescription drug used as weight loss pills for those struggling with obesity.

This stimulant medication is a Schedule IV controlled substance according to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). This means the drug can be habit-forming and may lead to physical or psychological dependence.

    Snorting Phentermine

Snorting phentermine begins with crushing the pill into powder. Once in powder form, a person may use a form of paraphernalia to snort the substance.

Those who participate in phentermine snorting may experience immediate effects. When snorted, phentermine enters the bloodstream much more quickly compared to when the medication is taken orally or as prescribed.

Because of this, snorting phentermine can lead to a wide range of side effects.

    Side Effects Of Snorting Phentermine

Some of the stimulant effects associated with phentermine consist of:

    • dry mouth
    • vomiting
    • constipation
    • weight loss
    • diarrhea

Side effects may not only worsen due to the insufflation of phentermine, but drug interactions can take place when certain medications and substances are combined with the drug.

Some substances to avoid while on phentermine include over-the-counter painkillers, certain prescription drugs containing amphetamine, and some supplements.

    Dangers Of Snorting Phentermine

Phentermine snorting can lead to severe health concerns, including damage to nasal passages and lung health as well as an increased risk of overdose.

    Damage To Nasal Passages

Snorting a substance that’s not designed for insufflation can cause damage to the mucous membranes of the nasal passageways. The nasal passages may become irritated, resulting in several recurring side effects such as nosebleeds or a runny nose.

Because of the harshness of the drug entering the body in this manner, a deviated septum or the loss of nasal tissue may take place. A person may lose their sense of smell for a time or develop problems with swallowing.

    Damage To Lung Health

The insufflation of phentermine can also lead to issues with lung health. Those snorting phentermine may create problems swallowing and cause inflammation of the throat and lungs.

When phentermine is snorted, some of the drug may enter the lungs, creating more irritation. This can create breathing problems and a chronic cough.

    Phentermine Overdose

Those who abuse phentermine by snorting the drug may have an increased risk of overdose. According to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), some of the symptoms of a phentermine overdose include:

    • fluctuations in heart rate or recurring palpitations including a potential heart attack
    • high blood pressure
    • severe mood changes
    • respiratory depression
    • sleeping difficulties
    • confusion
    • convulsions
