New Bedford, a city in Bristol County and adjacent to the town of Dartmouth, saw a 90% increase in opioid overdose deaths between 2014 and 2018.

As a resident of Dartmouth, you have access to just under 20 nearby drug and alcohol rehab centers. This includes Recovery Champions, one of our rehab centers that is located about 40 miles by car from Dartmouth.

If you or a loved one is seeking treatment, learning how to find local treatment centers can be beneficial.

Substance Abuse Treatment In Dartmouth, Massachusetts

The Southcoast area implemented a new 3-fold strategy in 2019 to help reach as many people as possible who struggle with alcohol or drug abuse.

Part of this plan, called the “360 Strategy,” is to provide community outreach through governmental, medical, and community service programs.

The Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) oversees treatment and recovery services in Massachusetts across the state. To learn more about how to find nearby alcohol and drug rehab programs, you can start by:

Dartmouth Alcohol & Drug Treatment Programs

Bristol County is home to several licensed addiction treatment centers, including detoxification, outpatient, and inpatient services. Massachusetts has both short-term and long-term programs suitable for your individual needs.

Once you receive an assessment, a provider will determine a treatment plan based on your unique needs. Depending on your addiction and the severity of your addiction, your treatment services may include:

    • medical detox programs
    • inpatient drug and alcohol rehab
    • partial hospitalization program (PHP)
    • intensive outpatient program (IOP)
    • dual diagnosis treatment (for co-occurring mental health disorders)
    • medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
    • aftercare support services

    Medical Drug & Alcohol Detox

A medical detox gives your body the time and attention it needs to heal from drug or alcohol withdrawal. During your short-term stay, you will likely be monitored 24/7 and given medication as needed to relieve symptoms.

    Residential/Inpatient Drug Rehab

Residential treatment programs allow you to remove yourself from potential triggers and environments you may associate with addiction. In this highly structured program, you are given the time you need to build healthy coping skills and behaviors.

You will likely be provided with around-the-clock care and support from trained professionals. Most inpatient drug rehab centers offer group therapy, behavioral therapy, peer support, and individual counseling.

    Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment, including partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) and intensive outpatient programs (IOPs), offer services similar to inpatient treatment programs. However, they require you to travel to the treatment center for sessions several times a week.

Outpatient services are effective for those with strong support systems or as a follow-up to an inpatient program.

    Opioid & Alcohol Treatment Programs

If you or a loved one is struggling with opioid or alcohol addiction, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) may be a good fit. This program combines medications, like buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone, with therapy to reduce cravings and help you stay in recovery.

    Aftercare

Once you finish an inpatient program, you can take advantage of aftercare planning services. Aftercare helps you maintain the skills you have learned in treatment and integrate back into your community.

Following treatment, you may have access to 12-step groups, relapse prevention, group counseling, and sober living services
