- Paying For Rehab
Like most states, Rhode Island has seen an increase in drug overdose deaths. But the state also has a lot of treatment facilities. In Bristol alone, there are 90 rehab facilities within a 25-mile radius.
Most of the treatment centers in Bristol also have multiple levels of care to ensure people with mild, moderate, and severe addictions get the help they need.
Substance Abuse Treatment In Bristol, Rhode Island
The Rhode Island Department of Health and the Department of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Hospitals (BHDDH) are the primary government agencies that oversee addiction services in the state.
To learn about addiction treatment services in Bristol, you can:
- look at the Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Providers list on the BHDDH website
- search for addiction treatment centers near you using the SAMHSA treatment locator
- reach out to local treatment facilities directly
Bristol Alcohol & Drug Treatment Programs
When you enter treatment, you’ll likely be assessed by an addiction specialist to figure out which rehab programs are right for you. From the assessment results, they can then build-out your treatment plan that may include a combination of the following servies:
- medical detoxification
- inpatient/residential treatment
- outpatient treatment
- dual-diagnosis treatment for co-occurring mental health disorders
- medication-assisted treatment
- aftercare support
Medical Drug & Alcohol Detox
One of the first treatments you might experience is medical detox. If you still have drugs and/or alcohol in your system, a medical detox program ensures you safely come off those substances.
During this short-term process, medical professionals watch over and monitor you as you stabilize and manage withdrawal symptoms.
Residential/Inpatient Drug Rehab
Inpatient drug rehab is one of the more vigorous drug addiction treatment programs you’ll likely find.
Treatment includes staying at a drug rehab center and participating in cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, and group therapy.
Surrounded by peers working towards similar goals, you’ll also learn more about your addiction and discover coping strategies to help with relapse prevention.
Outpatient Treatment
If inpatient treatment doesn’t seem like it’s right for you, intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) or partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) might be a better fit. Instead of staying at the rehab facility, you’re able to go home after each session.
How many sessions you have per week depends on the outpatient recovery program you’re in. IOPs tend to have sessions three days a week while PHP sessions occur five days a week.
Opioid & Alcohol Treatment Programs
One type of treatment for opioid and alcohol addiction is medication-assisted treatment (MAT). During this treatment, you’ll be prescribed specific medications that help ease cravings and heal some of the damage done by the effects of substance abuse.
Some medications used in MAT include Suboxone, methadone, and buprenorphine.
Aftercare
Once you leave treatment, you don’t have to lose the support you found. Many drug and alcohol rehab centers offer aftercare support. It can include resources like sober-living housing, alumni groups, and employment assistance.
Using Health Insurance For Addiction Treatment In Bristol, Rhode Island
Private health insurance and Medicare/Medicaid may cover addiction treatment. It’s considered an essential service so at least some of the cost is likely covered under most plans. To find out how to use your healthcare insurance to pay for treatment, you can:
- call your insurance provider and discuss how to use your benefits
- contact rehabilitation centers and ask how to pay for treatment with your insurance
- read over your insurance policy documents to learn what your benefits are
If you’re uninsured, search for facilities that offer payment plans or a sliding fee scale. You may be surprised how much financial help is out there.
