  • Choosing the addiction treatment program that works best for you is important. You want to get the most out of your time there. Rehab programs tend to come in 30-, 60-, and 90-day programs, with 90 days recommended for those with severe or long-standing addictions.

90-day treatment programs can have many benefits for those with drug or alcohol addiction. To learn if a 90-day program is right for you, consider the type of treatment options offered, the price, and your insurance coverage.

    Why 90 Days?

90-day alcohol and drug abuse treatment programs lay down a solid foundation for long-term recovery. It allows time for your brain to heal and reset itself.

It also allows you to learn new methods for living without drugs or alcohol. It also allows times for withdrawal symptoms to work through your system and for you to get help for any lingering health problems or issues. This includes dual diagnosis or other mental health issues.

Generally, the longer a person remains in addiction treatment, the more skills they develop to minimize the risk of relapse.

What To Expect From A 90-Day Drug Or Alcohol Rehab Program

Many 90-day addiction treatment programs will start and finish with inpatient rehab, but some also offer outpatient programs to add to the total time in treatment.

In inpatient treatment programs, residents live at the facility and interact with their peers, therapists, and doctors. This allows for 24-hour supervision, access to medical services, and therapists or psychiatrists to treat both addiction and co-occurring disorders.

    Intake & Detox

The first step of getting into rehab is intake. Intake is when the patient meets with a counselor and provides a history of their addiction and any medical or mental health issues. Rules are explained and paperwork is signed.

Next is usually detoxification. This can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the substance of abuse. This allows people to withdraw and eliminate all the drugs and alcohol from their system in a safe place.

Medications may also be part of detox to stabilize brain chemistry and reduce cravings for alcohol. After detox, patients are moved to therapy.

    Therapy Sessions

Therapy is the main component of a long-term substance abuse treatment plan. It can come in the form of individual or group therapy, with group therapy offering the extra benefit of peer support.

People work with their therapist on developing recovery skills, including practicing substance refusal, learning coping mechanisms, and rehearsing relapse prevention strategies. There are multiple therapeutic approaches found in rehabilitation programs, including:

    • cognitive behavioral therapy: in-depth look at substance use and learning to practice behavioral changes that help prevent relapse
    • motivational interviewing: develop internal motivations to quit alcohol and drugs and take personal responsibility for life choices
    • contingency management: earn rewards for meeting treatment goals and lose rewards for breaking sobriety
    • family therapy: mainly used for the treatment of adolescents and involves the family in the treatment process

    Planning Aftercare

Some rehab centers offer some sort of aftercare once you have completed formal inpatient treatment. Aftercare can include therapy, sobriety monitoring, and support groups or 12-step meetings like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Family therapy can also be part of aftercare if necessary. Medications taken during treatment may also be continued.

    Cost Of 90-Day Rehab

Which treatment center you end up going to can depend on the cost and whether your insurance covers it or not. Luckily, many rehab programs offer finance plans or sliding scale payment plans and accept major insurance providers

The price of treatment can vary depending on:

    • length of stay
    • amenities provided
    • if the program is inpatient or outpatient

90-day residential treatment programs vary in cost, from $200 to $700 per day, totaling $33,000 to $58,000 for the entire program. These costs will likely change based on the level of care needed, the luxuries offered, and the location of the program.

If you have government-sponsored health insurance, it must cover substance abuse treatment but how much coverage you have depends on the state. This only works for public rehab programs.

Private rehab programs may cost more but some charges may be covered by insurance.

    Benefits Of 90-Day Rehab Programs

There are lots of benefits to going to 90-day rehab treatment, including:

    • increased likelihood of long-term recovery
    • improved general functioning
    • increased rates of employment
    • reduced criminal activity
    • more time to grasp recovery skills
