  • MDMA, also known as molly or ecstasy, stays in your system for an average of 30 to 45 hours. Usually, its effects last for 3 to 6 hours after use.

MDMA can be detected through a number of specialized drug screens and tests. Detection times range from 15 minutes to 90 days after the last dose, depending on the type of test conducted.

    Types Of Drug Tests

MDMA (3,4 – methylenedioxymethamphetamine) is a synthetic drug that is not picked up by most conventional drug tests. Tests often have to be designed especially for MDMA and its unique parts (known as metabolites).

The goal of drug tests is to show signs of drug addiction, dependency, or illicit drug use. A positive drug test on a toxicology report may be a sign that one may need to seek out addiction treatment before they are in better shape to work.

    Urine Tests

A urine sample can have MDMA in it for up 2 to 4 days after the last dose. Urine tests are sensitive and may return false positives even when you have not taken molly recently. Taking certain medications may increase your chances of a false positive.

    Blood Tests

Blood tests have a detection window of anywhere between a few hours to 4 days. The amount of ecstasy taken can affect how long it can be picked up in the blood.

Blood plasma, serum, or a whole blood sample may be used during a blood test. The type of blood sample taken may affect the results of a test.

    Hair Tests

MDMA metabolites can be found in hair follicles for up to 90 days after the last dose.

Hair testing detection times are longer than other types of drug testing because metabolites end up in hair roots from the bloodstream. Then, they tend to stay in the hair as the hair grows out.

Hair tests can find traces of MDMA as well as many types of amphetamines, opioids, and benzodiazepines long after these drugs were taken.

    Saliva Tests

Saliva or oral fluid can test positive for MDMA metabolites between 1 to 2 days after the last dose. Some results showed drug use up to 3 days after MDMA was taken.

    Half-Life Of Ecstasy/Molly

Half-life refers to how long it takes for a drug to reach half of its peak concentration in the body. Knowing the half-life is important to find out how long a drug stays in your system after ingestion. After about 5 half-life cycles, most drugs are almost completely eliminated from the body.

The half-life of MDMA is between 6 to 9 hours

On average, ecstasy stays in your body anywhere between 30 to 45 hours, but trace amounts of metabolites can stay for longer and be picked up by drug tests. Many factors, such as drug tolerance, diet, and body fat can affect how long the drug stays in your body.

    Testing Positive For Molly/MDMA

Molly is a powerful illicit drug. Related drugs include some amphetamines, stimulants, and hallucinogens, but few drugs of abuse give the same cocktail of potent effects of MDMA. While it stays in your body, it can be dangerous to your physical and mental health.

If you or a loved one test positive for MDMA, you may be at risk for serious side effects. To learn about our substance abuse treatment programs, please contact us today.
