Substance Abuse Treatment In East Haven, Connecticut
The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is the main authority in Connecticut for mental health and drug addiction treatment services.
This department oversees many local rehab programs to ensure they’re up to a certain standard. To learn more about treatment available to you, you can:
- call the United Way of Connecticut’s 211 for listings of substance abuse services
- look at the Connecticut Network of Care website for treatment listings
- search the SAMHSA treatment locator for treatment facilities near you
- contact rehabilitation centers directly
East Haven Alcohol & Drug Treatment Programs
As a resident of East Haven or someone who lives nearby, you have access to a variety of different treatment options. Which ones you receive depends on the results of the assessment you complete when entering rehab.
The following treatment services may be available to you:
- medical detox programs
- inpatient/residential treatment
- outpatient treatment
- behavioral therapy
- medication-assisted treatment
- dual-diagnosis treatment for co-occurring disorders
- aftercare for addiction recovery
Medical Drug & Alcohol Detox
Addiction treatment may include a medical detoxification program. If you’ve built up a dependency on drugs and/or alcohol, coming off of the substances can cause withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms can range from unpleasant to life-threatening.
To make the process easier, healthcare professionals watch over you and provide support and care as symptoms appear.
Residential/Inpatient Drug Rehab
Inpatient drug rehab is perhaps the most comprehensive form of addiction treatment you’ll find. It involves staying at a treatment center 24/7 and having access to clinicians and therapists around the clock.
While there, you’ll participate in behavioral therapy, group therapy, and holistic therapies designed to promote healthy habits. You’ll also learn ways to cope with any mental health disorders that co-occur with addiction.
Outpatient Treatment
Two of the most common forms of outpatient treatment include:
- intensive outpatient program (IOP): 9-hours of treatment sessions each week
- partial hospitalization programs (PHP): 3-5 hour sessions five days a week
PHP and IOP offer similar therapy and treatment services as inpatient treatment, but you’re able to go home after each session instead of staying at the facility.
Opioid & Alcohol Treatment Programs
Opioid & alcohol addiction can be treated with medication. The medications used in this form of treatment include Suboxone, methadone, and naltrexone. They ease cravings and block the euphoric or “high” feeling that occurs when taking these substances.
Known as medication-assisted treatment (MAT), the approved medications may also be combined with therapy, peer support groups, and other treatment services.
Aftercare
You don’t have to lose the support system you had in treatment just because you graduated. Aftercare services are there for you after you leave. They may include sober-living housing, peer support, and employment assistance.
Using Health Insurance For Addiction Treatment In East Haven, Connecticut
Insurance paying for your addiction treatment can make a big difference. Fortunately, most private insurance and Medicare/Medicaid cover recovery programs. To discover if your insurance plan covers these services, you can
- call the phone number on the back of your insurance card and discuss your plan with a representative
- contact individual rehab centers to verify if they accept your insurance
- read over your insurance policy to learn about your benefits and how to use them for treatment
If you’re uninsured, contact DMHAS for information on state-funded recovery centers. Many programs also offer sliding fee scales to those with lower incomes.
