Profiles Of Addiction Recovery | Lindsay Lohan

Former child star and Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan struggled with alcohol and cocaine abuse during her early adult life. Although she claimed in interviews that her cocaine use was infrequent, this aspect of her life was widely publicized.

Lohan’s early success in movies such as The Parent Trap, Mean Girls, and Freaky Friday later gave way to a tumultuous young adult life, defined in the public eye by drug use, arrests, and multiple stays in rehab facilities.

Lohan’s drug use and its consequences, including her DUI arrest and court-ordered rehab stints, were widely publicized when they first happened. This led to intense scrutiny from paparazzi and judgment from the general public.

Lohan moved to Dubai in 2014 and made her film comeback in the Netflix movie Falling for Christmas.

    Fame & Exposure

Lohan’s struggles with substance abuse may have started when she moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18. She cites her independence, fame, and exposure to negative influence as reasons for abusing alcohol and drugs.

    Cocaine

In 2007, Lohan was arrested for a DUI, or driving under the influence of cocaine, for the first time. She told interviewers years later the night of her arrest was her first time trying drugs. However, her first arrest led to negative media exposure and pressure from the paparazzi and general public.

Despite the widespread media attention and rumors caused by her cocaine possession, Lohan claimed in later interviews that her cocaine use only happened about 10 to 15 times, and that she did not enjoy taking cocaine.

    Drug-Related Arrests & Jail Time

From 2007 to 2013, Lindsay Lohan was arrested six times for alcohol and drug-related misdemeanors.

Reasons for her arrests included failing a drug test while on probation, multiple DUIs, and one count of reckless driving. She mostly avoided jail time by attending court-ordered rehab at various treatment centers.

During this time, Lohan’s mugshots were widely circulated in news outlets, furthering the negative media attention sent her way. After completing 125 hours of community service, Lohan was released from probation in 2013.

    Oprah, Self-Improvement, & Recovery

After her sixth court-ordered rehab program in 2013, Lohan sat down with talk show icon Oprah Winfrey for a candid interview. In the interview, she cited her ongoing alcohol addiction as the main driving force for her public incidents and arrests.

She also committed to improving herself and seeking the help required in her Oprah interview. After the interview, the Oprah Winfrey Network aired the docuseries Lindsey, which was marketed as a candid look into the actress’ recovery process.

In 2014, Lohan moved to Dubai, describing it as a “fresh start.” Her patterns of alcohol and drug addiction may be behind her, due to her lack of public drug-related incidents since the move.

    Recovery Is Possible

Lindsay Lohan’s path to recovery gained widespread attention, which she spoke negatively on in interviews. If you’re looking for help with alcohol or drug addiction, a safe, quiet environment can help improve your chances of a successful recovery.
