Profiles Of Addiction Recovery | Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt is famous for his acting and producing career. He has won multiple Oscars and a Primetime Emmy Award, and he also has a long history of accolades in the film industry.
Whether you know Brad Pitt from films such as Ocean’s Eleven or Fight Club, you may not be aware of his struggle with drug and alcohol abuse during his career. Thankfully, Pitt achieved sobriety after a lengthy experience with drug addiction.
Marijuana & Alcohol Use
During the late 1990s, Pitt smoked marijuana. Throughout his career, Pitt suffered from an alcohol addiction which affected his relationship with his first wife, Aniston.
When his marriage to Jolie began to deteriorate, Pitt turned to alcohol once again.
Regarding drug use, Pitt spoke with GQ in 2017, stating “I was boozing too much. It just became a problem. And I’m really happy it’s been half a year now, which is bittersweet…”
Additionally, Pitt has stated he removed any drinking privileges from his life to avoid missteps with his addiction recovery.
Overcoming Alcohol & Drug Abuse
After his marriage ended with Jolie in 2016, Pitt sought recovery by attending Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings. This would be the last year Pitt participated in alcohol or drug use.
In later years, Pitt has jokingly revealed that he replaced alcohol with cranberry juice and fizzy water.
Transparency
Pitt has been transparent about his drug use, mentioning that hiding from the world by participating in drug use is a form of “running from feelings,” and abstaining from alcohol use is “part of the human challenge.”
During an interview in 2019, Pitt spoke with his fellow co-star on several film projects, Sir Anthony Hopkins. They both discussed their struggles with drug and alcohol addiction.
When the 2020 pandemic occurred, Pitt took the time to remove tobacco use from his habits.
About Brad Pitt
Actor Brad Pitt moved to Los Angeles to work random jobs while taking acting lessons.
In the late 1980s and 1990s, Pitt began his acting career, eventually receiving the “sex symbol” status for his shirtless scenes in Thelma & Louise and Fight Club.
Pitt married actress Jennifer Aniston in 2000, but the two later divorced in 2005. Around this time, Pitt met co-star and famous actress Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
These relationships brought much media attention to Pitt’s personal life. Unfortunately, Jolie and Pitt divorced in 2019, and Pitt has six children with his ex-wife.
In 2020, Pitt received the Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. During his acceptance speech, he acknowledged fellow actor Bradley Cooper for helping him obtain sobriety, citing him as an inspiration.
