  • Seeking treatment can be a difficult endeavor. The financial burden of addiction treatment is one of the leading reasons people don’t receive professional care.

However, there are treatment facilities that do offer free drug rehabilitation. It is also very common for rehab centers to offer comprehensive treatment options that allow for financial wiggle room and an adjusted fee based on your income.

    The Importance Of Affordable Rehab

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, in 2017 approximately 19.7 million people aged 12 or older had a substance use disorder (SUD).

Another SAMHSA report found that 19.3 million people were in need of substance abuse treatment but did not get the help they needed.

With such a large portion of the United States battling drug addiction, it’s important to learn more about the affordable healthcare options that are available, including both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs that are covered by insurance.

However, for those without health insurance, free treatment options may also be available.

    Free Rehab Options

There are viable options available to help counter the cost of addiction treatment. While some of these treatment options may help cover a stay at a rehab center, others are free programs that can aid in your recovery efforts.

    Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

Alcoholics Anonymous is founded upon a classic 12-step recovery program intended to treat alcohol addiction. Their programming offers easily accessible support groups and all at no cost.

    Medicare/Medicaid

Through Medicare or Medicaid, you may be eligible to have inpatient treatment completely covered if the need for care is considered reasonable and necessary.

    Federal & State Assistance

These local assistance programs can be incredibly helpful for low-income communities in dire need. The state of New York, for example, offers a significant amount of state-funded treatment offerings.

In order to be eligible, you must provide both proof of your legal/resident status as well as proof of need. However, keep in mind, program availability can be constricted due to budget cuts and there is often a waiting list.

    The Salvation Army

Offering more no-fee rehabilitation facilities than any other program in the United States, the Salvation Army continues to stand as a leader in affordable care.

    Their programming includes:

    • food
    • housing
    • counseling services
    • employment options

As one of the country’s most successful nonprofits, they work to provide not only treatment but work opportunities for post-rehabilitation.

    Sliding Scale Pricing

Many drug rehab centers offer scaled pricing. This simply means that rehab facilities will review your financial situation and then offer pricing options based on your income level.

This flexible sliding scale is something not commonly advertised by many rehabilitation programs, but it is an active part of this healthcare industry, especially for residential treatment.

    U.S. Department Of Veteran Affairs

The VA offers comprehensive treatment services to combat high rates of drug abuse in our veteran population. They work closely with individual treatment centers across the country to provide personalized care, addressing all needs from detox and alcohol rehab to dual diagnosis.

    Low-Cost Treatment Is Available

Finding the right treatment program for you is essential. Your personal needs are unique to you and your situation, but cost should never be a deterrent to your healing.

There are affordable rehab centers at low-cost either through your health insurance or through a rehab program and their personalized pricing. Beyond that, there exists a large number of free drug rehab opportunities if you find yourself or a loved one in need.

Lastly, do not hesitate to contact a local helpline if you are in need of further information or serious assistance.
