What Halcion looks like depends on the strength and manufacturer. The 0.125 mg Halcion pills are likely white and oval-shaped with various imprints. The 0.25 mg pills can be yellow, blue, or white.
Due to this variation, knowing whether you have a legitimate Halcion pill can be difficult. The only way to know for sure is to get a prescription from your healthcare provider.
Halcion is the brand name for Triazolam, a sedative-hypnotic and benzodiazepine prescription drug primarily used in the short-term treatment of sleep problems like insomnia. It works by slowing down the activity in the brain and central nervous system in order to help you sleep.

Halcion Abuse Potential
Halcion is classified as a Schedule IV controlled substance by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which means it has a low potential for abuse and a low risk for dependency but can still be habit-forming.
When taken in high doses over a long period of time, Halcion can lead to physical dependence. This is one of the reasons why the drug is recommended for only short-term treatment.
Once a physical dependence is built, suddenly quitting the medication can lead to difficult withdrawal symptoms like rebound insomnia, cravings, and seizures.
Side Effects Of Halcion Use
Like most prescription drugs, Halcion comes with a number of side effects. Some are more common than others and some can be very severe.
The most common side effects of triazolam may include:
- drowsiness
- dizziness
- lightheadedness
- headache
- problems with coordination
- nervousness
- tingling of the skin
- nausea
- vomiting
While not as common, Halcion can also produce serious side effects. If you experience any of the following side effects, contact a healthcare professional as soon as possible:
- allergic reaction
- memory loss
- mood/behavior changes like depression, suicidal thoughts, and hallucinations
- sleep-walking and sleep-driving
Halcion Drug Interactions & Warnings
Several substances negatively interact with Halcion and the combination can lead to adverse reactions, like trouble breathing, that could be life-threatening.
Some of the substances to avoid while on Halcion include:
- antifungals like itraconazole and ketoconazole
- supplements
- grapefruit juice
- HIV protease inhibitors like lopinavir, ritonavir, and nefazodone
- antibiotics like clarithromycin and erythromycin
- antidepressants
- other benzodiazepines like alprazolam (Xanax), lorazepam (Ativan), and diazepam (Valium)

Halcion can also lead to a worsening of some health conditions, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Breathing Problems
As a central nervous system (CNS) depressant and sedative-hypnotic, Halcion slows down activity in the brain and body. This can lead to slowed breathing, especially when it’s mixed with other CNS depressants.
Also, if you already have breathing problems or sleep apnea, it could worsen that issue. For this reason, the drug isn’t recommended for those with breathing problems.
