Vodka-Soaked Tampons | Dangers, Effects, & Myths
When a person struggles with alcohol abuse, regardless of the type of alcohol, there will likely be health concerns.
If you consume alcohol in ways other than drinking it, your body may absorb a high amount of alcohol which can lead to serious consequences. This can be the case when it comes to vodka-soaked tampons.
Dangers Of Vodka-Soaked Tampons
Inserting vodka tampons into your body is dangerous. Primarily seen in young people, this dangerous form of alcohol consumption involves soaking a tampon in ethanol or vodka and then inserting it into the vagina or rectum. This is known as “slimming.”
Alcohol Poisoning & Skin Damage
This practice can increase the risk of alcohol poisoning due to the fact that the mucous membranes in the vagina and rectum are thin. Not only will you experience the effects of alcohol more quickly, but you can also damage the skin on your body.
Severe Effects
In addition to this, people may use an applicator to administer a super tampon into their body. This can lead to severe effects like:
- colonic bleeding
- anal pain
- colitis
- respiratory depression
- coma
- death
Rectal & Vaginal Administration
In addition to soaking tampons in vodka, butt-chugging alcohol is a process where alcohol is poured through a tube into the rectum. This can also be referred to as beer bong.
Another way people abuse alcohol is by soaking gummy bears or gummy worms in alcohol for a period of time and then eating them. People also participate in eyeballing, a process where alcohol is poured into the eyeball.
Effects Of Vodka-Soaked Tampons
The act of slimming can cause your body to experience a range of side effects. Not only can alcohol cause problems such as heart disease, liver disease, or cancer, you may also experience short-term issues such as:
- blackouts
- falls
- accidents (such as drownings or motor vehicle crashes)
- mental health problems
With the rectal or vaginal administration of alcohol, the effects you experience can occur all of a sudden and without warning. Your body may absorb the alcohol more quickly to the point that your body receives damage such as:
- burns
- ulcers
- bleeding
- internal infections
- colorectal cancer
Myths Of Vodka Tampons
One popular myth regarding vodka tampons is that by using alcohol in this way, you won’t have alcohol on your breath and therefore you’ll be able to pass a breathalyzer test.
This is not necessarily true, since a breathalyzer measures your body’s blood alcohol content (BAC) level and can still be on your breath.
Do People Actually Do This?
Although there have not been many cases of tampons being soaked in vodka to experience greater effects of alcohol, there was a case involving a wife who performed a sherry enema on her husband using sherry wine. Unfortunately, the husband died due to this alcohol enema.
This is why it’s important to never engage in excessive alcohol consumption or participate in risky activities such as butt-chugging, eyeballing, or using a vodka-soaked tampon.
