  • Just like different types of alcohol have different percentages of alcohol by volume (ABV) or alcohol content, so can different brands. One vodka brand can make much stronger vodka than the other.

It’s important to look at the ABV of any alcoholic drink because the higher the percentage, the more intense the effects can be. Here are 10 of the strongest vodkas available.

    1. Spirytus Rektyfikowany

This vodka is made in Poland and is the most alcoholic liqueur available on the market with 96% ABV and 192 proof. This vodka is not to be messed with. There’s actually a warning on it to not drink it straight. It’s meant to be mixed with fruit juices and other mixers.

If you drink this, you need to do so with extreme caution as it could bring on serious side effects like alcohol poisoning.

    2. Pincer Shanghai Strength

This Pincer vodka is another strong one with 88.88% ABV or 177 proof. It’s made in Scotland, infused with milk thistle and wild elderflowers, and made with Scottish grain. It tastes like flowers, wild berries, and blueberries.

With this ABV percentage, this isn’t alcohol to drink lightly. For comparison, absinthe has a lower ABV than this, which is considered very strong.

It’s too strong to be taken as a shot on its own and you should only drink it in moderation. Too much, especially over a long period of time, can cause damage to the liver and other organs.

    3. Balkan 176 Vodka

Balkan 176 is one of the strongest Scandinavian drinks and has a 88% ABV and is 176 proof. It goes through the distillation process three times and is considered almost tasteless. But because it’s so strong, it has 13 different health warnings on the bottle.

Make sure to check out those warnings before you try this to avoid any health issues that may occur.

    4. Good Ol’ Sailor

Good Ol’ Sailor vodka is made in Sweden and is known for its unique bottle designs. Their vodka comes in at 85% ABV and 170 proof.

They are also Sweden’s first organically grown and made vodka with bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate. This makes it better for the environment.

Since it’s so strong, it’s meant to be used in small amounts in mixed drinks and not taken straight. Too much could lead to blackouts, high blood pressure, and anxiety.

    5. Devil Springs Vodka

Devil Springs is an American vodka made in New Jersey and owned by Black Prince Distillery. It comes in at 80% ABV and 160 proof. The brand is known for how high the proof is, which means its effects can be quite intense.

This isn’t something you want to down as a shot as the effects of the alcohol could hit you too quickly and lead to some serious side effects.

    6. Svedka 100

Made in Sweden, Svedka 100 is column-distilled five times from Swedish winter wheat. Besides the wheat, it’s also made with yeast and water. It’s 50% ABV and is 100 proof.

Due to its rounded sweetness, it’s best for mixing in cocktails.

    7. Absolut 100

This is the higher-proof version of the classic Absolut premium vodka commonly used in bars and restaurants. It comes in a black bottle with silver lettering to help differentiate the classic vodka from this higher-proof one.

Absolut 100 is produced in Åhus, Sweden, and is made from locally-grown winter wheat. As the name suggests, it’s 100 proof and 50% ABV. It’s used in mixed drinks or taken neat in small quantities.

    8. Belvedere Intense 100 Proof

Like other standard Belvedere vodka, the Intense 100 Proof is distilled from 100% Polish Dankowski rye. It’s double filtered through charcoal to remove the impurities. As the name suggests, it’s 100 proof and 50% alcohol percentage

The Polish vodka contains less water than other competitors which is part of the reason for the high proof and its intensity. It’s best to drink it in moderation and to drink plenty of water between each drink.

    9. Smirnoff No. 57 100 Proof

Smirnoff No. 57 comes in at 50% ABV (100 proof). While not as strong as some vodkas featured on this list, it’s still quite intense and should only be drunk in moderation.

While Smirnoff started off in Russia, it’s now made in the U.S. The No 57 is triple distilled from non-GMO grains and filtered ten times to get out any impurities. It can be had straight or mixed with other things in a cocktail.

    10. Stolichnaya 100

Stolichnaya 100 is a Russian vodka also known as Blue Label. It’s made of wheat and rye. While it’s distilled in Russia, it’s bottled and brought to proof in Latvia. It has an ABV of 50%, which is 100 proof.
